News portal tv3.lt was the first to report on this on Wednesday. The politician herself confirmed the decision to Eltai.
“I made a decision not to run,” said M. Navickienė.
Later, she commented on her decision on the social network Facebook.
“Difficult, but a decision made is much better than not made at all. Today, after a rather long consideration, I sent a letter to TS-LKD comrades, in which I not only thank them for their support, support and a long 13-year journey together, but also about my withdrawal from active politics and my decision not to run for office in the upcoming Seimas elections”, wrote M. Navickienė
The former minister thanked her comrades and the party community.
“For me, politics has never been about me personally. It’s more about how much you can do in it, how much you can make decisions or mobilize people who think differently for common goals. Therefore, feeling that I could not do it productively at the moment, I decided to turn the next page of my life”, she explained, admitting that the decision “brings not only uncertainty, but also a feeling of relief”.
Chairman of TS-LKD: I respect Monika’s decision
The chairman of the Fatherland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), Gabrielius Landsbergis, responding to the decision of his party colleague, thanked her for her joint work in the Government and the Conservative Party.
“I respect Monika’s decision and I want to thank her for her work in the Government and in the TS-LKD community,” said G. Landsbergis in a comment to Elta.
ELTA reminds that following the scandal of M. Navickienė and her husband Mindaugas Navickis’ connections with businessmen Ieva Trinkūnaite, Vilhelms Germanus, convicted of fraud, and the company Foxpay, the politician resigned from the position of head of the Ministry of Social Security and Labor (SADM).
Despite this, the politician received significant support from the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democratic Union (TS-LKD). When ranking the list of candidates in the multi-mandate district, the member of the Seimas remained in sixth place.
The party has not made any decisions regarding the candidacy of a politician in the single-mandate district. However, earlier the chairman of conservatives, Gabrielius Landsbergis, assured that she could participate in the elections.
For his part, President Gitanas Nausėda has noted that he would not take part in the autumn elections in place of M. Navickienė.
“It’s up to her. I can only say how I would do it – I would not participate. If you want to stay in politics, maybe I would do it after a certain period of time, of course, after understanding and admitting my mistakes and perhaps showing through my activities that I am trying to correct those mistakes,” G. Nausėda told LRT television.
