The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) issued a statement tonight, Friday, June 28, 2024, regarding the decision of the National government on elimination of subsidy on subsidies which has already begun.

The leader addresses the president Daniel Noboa Azin and the Deputy Minister of Government, Esteban Torres Cobo. «Stop lying to the Ecuadorian people. Now that they won, they came, arranged their businesses and are guaranteeing that the FMI impose on this country to take out more loans and with the same credit pay international debt.”
He said that Noboa and Torres should be concerned about paying off the domestic debt. He questioned the shortcomings in the health system and what Solca has not been paid. The same with Ecuadorians who suffer catastrophic illnesses and die. “The credits in multilateral organizations will be to pay debt. In the next renegotiation, those interests will be converted into capital and will return as Unpayable debts for Ecuadorians«.
He assured that the indigenous movement has declared itself in territorial assemblies. He emphasized that it is not a problem of candidacies, since what is at stake is a aggressive government policy that will break with the economy of Ecuadorian families with the issue of subsidies, new taxes, converting temporary taxes into permanent ones, privatizations and what will happen with the financial system.
«In the following days our position will be made known in coordination with other organized sectors of Ecuador. Therefore, for the following weeks that have been called for struggles, we salute all the forms of struggle that are being called for by the different sectors in Ecuador and, successively, with our support structures.
