Actress Shannen Doherty, known for her roles on hit TV shows such as Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, died on Saturday of cancer at the age of 53.
“It is with great sadness that I confirm the death of actress Shannen Doherty,” her publicist, Leslie Sloane, said in a statement.
“The daughter, sister, aunt and loyal friend was surrounded by her family and her dog, Bowie,” he said.
Doherty had a career spanning more than four decades as an actress, but she came to prominence as Brenda Walsh on four seasons of 90210.
The series followed a group of teenagers from the affluent community of Beverly Hills, California, as they faced family and relationship problems.
Doherty was nominated for several awards for her role on the show.
She later played Brenda in a 2008 remake of the series, where her character is now grown up and a theater actress.
Although Doherty and the characters she played seemed to live in a brighter, more glamorous world, she always came across as someone the audience could relate to on screen, and she was a self-proclaimed “bad girl” in real life.

The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and underwent a mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy.
In 2017 he announced that he was in remission, but the cancer returned two years later.
Doherty spoke openly about his illness and documented it on social media. In an Instagram video from June 2023, he announced that the cancer had spread to his brain.
She later said she remained committed to fight the disease even though it spread to his bones.
“I’m not done living. I’m not doing loving. I’m not doing creating,” he told People magazine in November 2023.

Doherty was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971, and began acting as a child.
She appeared in TV series such as Voyagers, Our House and Father Murphy before appearing as Jenny Wilder aged 11 in Little House on the Prairie (Little House on the Prairie).
Three years later, in 1985, he landed his first major film role in the lead role Girls just want to have funwhich also stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.
In 1988, Doherty played Heather Duke in the iconic teen film heather by Winona Ryder, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker.
While working on 90210 in the ’90s, she gained a reputation as a troublemaker, with some accusing her of heated fights with her co-stars.
“There were times when we were trying to poke each other’s eyes out,” Doherty’s co-star, Jennie Garth, admitted in 2014. But the two became friends as they got older.
Doherty admitted he had a hard time handling fame. “At the time I was very confused about what I wanted for myself, and the attention was too much,” she said. “I didn’t always handle it well.”
“And, in truth, I was hurting myself because the more I fought, the more the celebrity put itself on the actor, and then the press took advantage of it.”

He later became a star Charmed (Hechiceras), a show about three sisters who were witches.
Doherty also had roles in Short Northset in a Hawaii hotel, and in the movie comedy Mallrats.
The actress was married twice before marrying her current husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko, in 2011.
In the 2010s, he joined reality TV shows, appearing on Dancing With The Stars and in the American version of it Strictly Come Dancing.
