“Our team will work closely with the Moroccan coordination teams and provide our full support to save as many people as possible,” Gauden said in a statement to the press, after the landing of two A400M aircraft from the British Royal Air Force.
Expressing his sincere condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims as well as to the Moroccan people, Mr. Gauden noted that his team is in Morocco “to support the ongoing relief efforts.”
“We are in contact with our Moroccan colleagues who are making tireless efforts,” he said.
For his part, the British Ambassador to Morocco, Simon Martin, praised the “heroic” search and rescue efforts that continue in Morocco, stressing that it is “an honour and a privilege to have the opportunity to support these efforts with the arrival of a British search and rescue team, who will work very closely with the Moroccan coordinating authorities”.
“This illustrates the very close relations woven between our two countries,” he said.
It should be recalled that search and rescue teams from Spain, the United Kingdom and Qatar are currently deployed, alongside Moroccan rescue teams, in the disaster areas.
The use of offers of support and aid presented by the various friendly and brotherly countries is made on the basis of a precise assessment of needs on the ground by the Moroccan authorities.
The earthquake, which struck several regions of Morocco on Friday evening, provoked a great wave of solidarity, particularly from several heads of state, government and international institutions, who expressed their condolences and solidarity with the Kingdom and the Moroccan people.
