In a joint statement made public following talks held Monday in Rabat between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Maltese Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, the two parties also called for seizing the opportunities offered by new value chains.
The two ministers also praised the excellent relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Malta, while reiterating their common desire to further strengthen them.
In this context, the two parties agreed to hold the 2nd session of the Moroccan-Maltese Joint Commission in Valletta, an opportunity to give a strong boost to bilateral relations, through the exploration of new areas of cooperation, especially since the two countries constitute a gateway to the African and European continents respectively.
Furthermore, Morocco and Malta reaffirmed the centrality of the historic and privileged partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union (EU) and underlined the importance of this strategic partnership.
Malta reiterated, in this regard, its commitment to contribute to the preservation and strengthening of this Morocco-EU strategic partnership at all levels.
In this statement, the Republic of Malta “appreciates the fact that the Kingdom of Morocco is an actor of peace and understanding between nations and has maintained excellent relations with the EU”. The two countries are working to further strengthen these relations, the statement underlines.
Regarding the migration issue, Morocco and Malta expressed their determination to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking.
The two sides also agreed to effectively address migration pressure as a common challenge and shared responsibility, and further strengthen cooperation in the field of return and readmission.
In this regard, the Republic of Malta recognizes Morocco’s efforts in the fight against illegal migration and its presidency in 2023 of the Rabat Process.
