In the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, the city of Shusha, in front of the Museum-mausoleum of Molla Panah Vagif, the grand opening of the next Days of Vagif Poetry, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, took place, the press service of the department reported to Day.Az.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the state and the public, famous figures of literature, science and culture of the republic, foreign guests, as well as residents of the city of Shusha who returned to their hometown.
The First Secretary of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, People’s Writer Chingiz Abdullayev emphasized that Vagif Poetry Days this year coincide with many important and significant events.
“This is the first poetry festival held after the complete restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. In addition, the city of Shusha is the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2024. This year also marks the 530th anniversary of the brilliant Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fuzuli and the 90th anniversary of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan. More than 100 members of the Writers’ Union are participating in the event this year,” Chingiz Abdullayev noted.
The President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the work of Molla Panah Vagif, emphasizing his invaluable contribution to national literature.
“Vagif glorified the beauty of Azerbaijan in his poems, bringing a high level of folk spoken language to literature. His work reflects the glorious history of Azerbaijan,” noted Isa Habibbayli.
He added that the newly organized Vagif Poetry Days are a great celebration of the poetic and artistic Azerbaijani language.
It was emphasized that on January 14, 1982, with the participation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the grand opening of the mausoleum and poetry house of the great poet and statesman Molla Panah Vagif (1717-1797) took place in Shusha. It was at this event that the great leader Heydar Aliyev, supporting the initiative of writers, gave the order to hold Vagif Poetry Days. The poetry festival was first organized in July 1982. Vagif Poetry Days, which have a 42-year history, are being held for the fourth time in Shusha, liberated from occupation.
People’s writer Elmira Akhundova spoke about the boundless love and care for the Azerbaijani language and literature of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, who even in the most difficult times of the Soviet period attached special importance to the development of national thought, the idea of Azerbaijanism, and highly valued the works that reflected this idea for the sake of future generations.
Member of the Milli Majlis of the 6th convocation Fazil Mustafa emphasized that Shusha, as a place that has become a symbol of Azerbaijan, is once again regaining its former appearance and grandeur. People’s poet Sabir Rustamkhanli, Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of the UPA Rashad Majid, Secretary of the UPA Selim Babullaoglu and Chairman of the Gazakh branch of the UPA Barat Vusal spoke about the unusual nature, the uniqueness of the city of Shusha, how it became the center of international events, and also recited poems.
The artistic part featured a poetic duet based on the works of Muhammed Fizuli and Molla Panah Vagif performed by Honored Artists Azad Shukurov and Nazir Rustamov. Honored Artist Nigyar Shabanova, soloists Abguly Mirzaliyev, Ilkin Dovletov and Leyla Rahimli performed the compositions “Karabakh”, “Shushin Mountains” and “This is the Motherland”. The concert program was met with applause.
