Diaco files a complaint with the MP regarding price speculation on fruit and vegetables
The director of the Directorate for Consumer Care and Assistance (Diaco), Karina Donis, reported that she filed a criminal complaint with the Public Ministry this morning against the entities that are in the marketing chain of products in the basic food basket. According to what was reported, this measure is part of the activities aimed at combating the overpricing of fruits and vegetables, as well as possible speculation and tax crimes.

The Ministry of Economy (Mineco) shared that the criminal complaint comes from the investigation that DIACO personnel deployed in different parts of the country for several weeks and which came to an end last Friday, taking into account, within the framework of Joint operations with SAT, MAGA and MINGOB received a series of potential speculation signals.
“This day the Directorate for Assistance and Minister for Consumers, DIACO, submits itself to the Ministry of Public to file a complaint against those who are speculating on the prices of vegetables and fruits, especially products that have risen without any author at the end of July and the beginning of July,” said the director of DIACO. As he explained, these are products like tomato, onion, potato, güisquil, cabbage and avocado.
According to DIACO, those speculating on the prices of the mentioned products could receive a three-year prison sentence as a sanction. In addition, maximum fines of up to R3 thousand will be charged.
At the same time, the MP is being asked to request a report from the Supervision of Tax Administration (SAT), in order to pursue speculators in relation to fiscal and tax crimes.
Finally, they reported that DIACO will continue joint surveillance operations with SAT, MAGA, MINGOB and MP.
