Speaking at a joint press briefing with his Palestinian counterpart, Mr. Riyad Al Maliki, at the end of their talks on the eve of the holding of the 6th edition of the Russia-Arab World Cooperation Forum, scheduled for this Wednesday in Marrakech at the level of foreign ministers, Mr. Bourita indicated that his talks with Mr. Al Maliki were an opportunity to discuss the situation in Gaza and the developments of the Palestinian question in general, and to reaffirm the constant positions of Morocco and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to the establishment of their State within the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital.
Mr. Bourita also stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco constantly and unconditionally supports the establishment of a Palestinian state as well as all efforts carried out by the Palestinian Authority for the consecration of the rights of the Palestinian people.
After recalling Morocco’s positions on the situation in Gaza, expressed during the Riyadh Summit by His Majesty the King, Mr. Bourita stressed the clear responsibility of the international community, considering that its inability to put an end to the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip is unacceptable and inexplicable.
In this regard, he indicated that Morocco expresses its rejection of targeting Palestinian civilians, and calls for a permanent and controlled ceasefire and the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to the Palestinian brothers.
The blocking of the political horizon, the minister added, can only generate crises, adding that “we must move from the logic of crisis management to that of the definitive settlement of the Palestinian question in accordance with international legality and the Arab Peace Initiative.”
“Today, human conscience and all mechanisms of international law, as well as the relevant international institutions, assume responsibility for this situation,” said Mr. Bourita, noting that “the management of the crisis must not be carried out according to the same logic, because we need a real pause to establish a lasting peace that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as well as the security and safety of all countries, including Israel.”
Regarding the ongoing provocations and unilateral actions in Al-Quds, the latest of which is the confiscation of land in East Al-Quds, Mr. Bourita stressed that His Majesty the King is following with concern these unacceptable actions which fuel the conflict and contribute to strengthening the extremists on each side.
In this context, the Minister added that Morocco reiterates its call for an end to these provocations and for Israel to cease its unilateral actions, while engaging in a genuine political process with the Palestinian Authority, noting that there is no stability or peace in the region without the establishment of a Palestinian state and without strengthening the legitimacy of the Palestinian Authority and its financial and political support, as the only solution to establish stability and bring the region out of recurring crises.
