During the opening of the “Mediterranean Migration” Forum in the capital, Tripoli, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, welcomed all attendees, stressing the importance of the forum to discuss the migrant crisis.

Dabaiba said: “This conference is a story that began since he assumed his duties, adding: “The problem of immigration is a problem that worries many countries and many people, and we see it in the Mediterranean Sea, this sea that separates the north of the Mediterranean from the south, and all African countries want to communicate with the north.”

Al-Dabaiba added: “Many African countries are going through crises of need and famine, and you all know Africa and what it suffers from the scourges of colonialism and exploitation, and its wealth has been plundered in the past fifty years, which forced the African citizen to resort to his livelihood, which is the search for a living.”

“The search for a living takes a rough and difficult road, full of dangers and sometimes ends in death. First, they cross the desert from African countries, and many Africans actually die of thirst and hunger in the barren desert. When they reach Libya, they think about how to cross another desert, which is the Mediterranean Sea. Many of these people die in the Mediterranean Sea, and the lucky one finds himself in a camp or detention center in one of the European countries. A lot of money is spent from Europe in detention camps, and on this road, many of these migrants remain with us,” Dabaiba continued.

Dabaiba added: “Europe uses all means and methods to prevent these people, and Africa from the south pushes these people to need, thirst, hunger, livelihood and a better life.”

Al-Dabaiba said: “We found ourselves in this country, in fact, under pressure from the north and the south. We said, and for this conference, the north is spending, and we are spending a lot of money, and the people, the Africans, and our fellow human beings of all religions are dying either in the desert or on the road.”

Al-Dabaiba continued: “This money that has been spent over the past fifty years has not solved this crisis. The idea is simple. This money, we must see our countries in Africa and our people in Africa sending these people, to spend this money there and not at sea, not in lifeboats, not in the desert, not in detention camps in Libya or in Europe, and this African citizen is humiliated.”

Al-Dabaiba said: “We said to work on real projects for stability and to make countries, especially neighboring countries, to Libya. The project may extend to more than neighboring countries, to support these governments and these countries, to stop or take a position against them, for the stability of their children and families, and this is the project quite simply.”

He added: “We, the Chadian president, and each one representing a party to this pressure, the southern party and the northern party, said why don’t we meet and establish a real, actual movement that solves or contributes to solving this problem.”
