jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Indonesian Hemophilia Society (HMHI) emphasizes the importance of suboptimal treatment of hemophilia patients.

One of the causes is underdiagnosis and is usually only diagnosed after heavy bleeding occurs.

“Of course, this is at higher risk of experiencing complications of disability and even death,” said the ad interim Chair of HMHI, Dr. dr. Novie Amelia Chozie, SpA(K), in a written statement, Tuesday (16/7).

Hemophilia is a condition in which bleeding is difficult to stop.

In more severe conditions, hemophilia patients can experience spontaneous bleeding or bleeding that occurs without a clear known cause, as well as bleeding after injury or surgery.

“Most hemophilia patients are male,” he said.

It is estimated that there are around 400 thousand hemophilia sufferers worldwide.

In Indonesia, it is estimated that there are 27 thousand hemophilia patients, but until 2021, only around 3,000 patients were diagnosed and recorded in the 2021 Annual Report by the World Federation of Haemophilia.

HMHI emphasizes the importance of early detection of Hemophilia to avoid complications of disability, even death.
