“El Hotzo” reaches a large audience on the Internet with his humor. Three statements about Trump show how Bavarians think.
Do you have to read a lot of “El Hotzo” to understand what he thinks? Probably not necessary, as his funny remarks are quite simple in content. And paint a picture that is not exactly complicated. “My biggest problem in life is that nothing will ever bring me even remotely into the state of utter bliss that a drunken father at a village festival feels when he hears the first bars of ‘Anton from Tirol’,” he writes. And he immediately shows an underlying constant: he wants to stand up for the “little man” because he is, after all, left-wing and anti-capitalist. But at the same time he is very disappointed that the “little man” is not what he wants to be.
“El Hotzo” or Sebastian Hotz is someone who believes he has “the heart of Germany”. But he also likes to discuss international politics. In the case of Donald Trump, it is quite inhumane. Does “the last bus” have anything in common with Donald Trump? “Unfortunately we didn’t lose it” said El Hotzo. It was probably not clear enough for him that he wrote in the second tweet: “I think it’s great when the fascists die.”
Must say: The 28-year-old from Bavaria in Upper France has a huge presence: 1.4 million people follow him on Instagram, 700,000 on X. He has already written two books (not very good) and he was awarded the prize. Bavarian Cabaret Award awarded; in a new category, the Creator’s Award. Because his degree is on the Internet. By the way, this is not a legal vacuum either.
Hotz is also working from 2022 as the presenter of the “Theoretically Cool” program on Radio Fritz, a program from the ARD institute RBB. So public broadcasting. Perhaps his zeal in the assassination attempt would cause him problems. At the request of several media outlets, the RBB retracted Hotz’s statements. They are “inhumane and contrary to the values of the RBB”. The consequences are still unclear. It will be exciting to see if “El Hotzo”, who has also been working as a gag author for Jan Böhmermann’s “ZDF Magazin Royale” for a few years now, refers to satire in his style.
Does Hotz regret his comments? It doesn’t seem like that. After all, he left a tweet that says perhaps as much about him as the one quoted above: “No one forces you to pity fascists, you can leave it in alone without the slightest consequence,” he wrote on Monday. A typical El Hotzo tweet. It shows how the satirist considers half-baked ideas so clever that he turns them into a paradigm. Yes, you can sympathize with a fascist. How to generally let pity wait. But do we want to live in such a world?
