Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during her participation in the Migration Forum held in Tripoli, stressed the importance of Libya in addressing the migration crisis in the Southern Europe region.
Meloni explained, during her speech, that Libya is among the priorities of southern European countries in the field of training and infrastructure development, noting that the migration crisis can only be solved by addressing its roots in the source countries.
She stressed the need to work together simultaneously to address the migration issue and to share mechanisms between the countries concerned.
She stressed that we work at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and that we must confront smuggling, smugglers and human traffickers, especially since human traffickers have become more influential people according to UN reports. She stressed the need to focus on combating smuggling networks, which is what we have been trying to do in recent years.
She said that the Italian government is carrying out work in several aspects, including work at sea with the support of partners from several countries, including regional and neighboring countries, noting that the immigration problem cannot be solved unless it is addressed to its roots and source countries, and people should not be expelled and forced to immigrate.
She added that Africa is a distinguished source of energy and can export it, and here we must focus our efforts on strengthening our cooperation according to a long-term strategy.
