In the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, the city of Shusha, as part of the Vagif Poetry Days, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, an hour of modern poetry “The Word of the Motherland – Karabakh” (Sözün Vətəni – Qarabağ) was held, the press service of the department told Day.Az.

At the opening, the head of the poetry sector of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan, Ibrahim Ilyasli Vagif, noted that Vagif’s Poetry Days are a celebration of words, art and spirituality.

In front of the house of the khan’s daughter Khurshidbanu Natavan, famous and young poets who are members of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union (AWU) recited their poems.

Honored Artist, Professor of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts Agalar Bayramov, Chairman of the Guba branch of the SPA Ramiz Gusarchayli, Chairman of the Karabakh branch of the SPA Elchin Iskenderzade, Head of the Press Service Khayal Rza, writer-playwright, poet, translator Seyran Sakhavat, Honored Cultural Workers Gyashyam Najafzade, Rafig Yusifoglu, poets Farid Huseyn, Intigam Yashar, Kamala Abiyeva, Rafail Injeyurd, Shahnaz Shahin, Dayandur Sevgin, Matanyat Ulushirvani, Zarangiz Demirchigayali and others read their patriotic poems, as well as works dedicated to Shusha.

It should be noted that on January 14, 1982, with the participation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the mausoleum and the House of Poetry of the great poet and statesman Molla Panah Vagif (1717-1797) were opened in Shusha. It was at this event that Heydar Aliyev supported the initiative of our writers in this direction and gave the order to hold Vagif Poetry Days. The poetry festival was first organized in July 1982. Vagif Poetry Days, which have a 42-year history, are being held in Shusha liberated from occupation for the fourth time.
