/ The Iraqi Football Association announced on Wednesday the date for the resumption of the Iraqi Premier League, after it was suspended due to the national team’s involvement in the Asian Cup in Qatar, which it recently left.
The Iraqi team bid farewell to the tournament last Monday, after a difficult loss to its Jordanian counterpart, who scored a fatal goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time after the end of regular time in the controversial match, especially after it witnessed the expulsion of Iraqi striker Ayman Hussein.
The Vice President of the Referees Committee in the Football Association, Mohammed Arab, told Shafak News Agency, “The league championship, in its 13th round, will resume on February 10, similar to the leagues of many countries, most of which are linked to their continental competitions, stressing the preparation of Iraqi referees to lead the matches of the upcoming rounds of the Iraqi Premier League.”
Arab added, “The Iraqi Federation decided to continue the Iraq Cup competitions during the break,” noting that “the 32nd round has ended and the clubs will continue to play the second round matches that will start on Saturday and Sunday.”
He pointed out that “a large number of Iraqi referees are currently residing in a training camp in Antalya to prepare them well for the upcoming events at the domestic and international levels.”
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya team tops the Iraqi Premier League football teams, after the end of the 12th round, with 30 points.
