Vice President of the Data Center & AI Group and General Manager of Xeon Products Lisa Spelman will leave Intel on August 15 to assume her role as head of Cornelis Networks. Spellman worked at Intel for more than 20 years and held several positions during that time. Most recently, she was primarily responsible for ensuring that Xeon processors received the appropriate extensions and accelerators for AI tasks.
Former Cornelis Networks CEO Philip Murphy will be given another COO job at the network specialist. Cornelis Networks is known for its Omni-Path based networking hardware. Both AI and HPC systems require fast network connections such as Omni-Path. With Omni-Path CN5000, Cornelis hardware currently operates at 400 Gbit/s per link. Host interfaces are offered as well as switches and cables.
As companies move to develop their infrastructure for AI workloads, one of the biggest challenges they face is combining the massive amount of computation required by CPUs, GPUs and accelerators. Being able to do this very effectively will make or break an organization’s ability to compete in the AI world. Cornelis is unique in that it has the products, the roadmap and the talent to help customers address this issue. I look forward to being part of the team to bring their innovations to more organizations around the globe.
