The bill on the preservation of cultural, natural and geological heritage aims to support the societal and institutional development of the Kingdom (Bensaid)

Rabat – The bill on the preservation of cultural, natural and geological heritage aims to support the societal and institutional development of the Kingdom, in accordance with the provisions of the 2011 Constitution, stressed on Thursday the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.

During a presentation on the developments relating to this project before the Government Council, Mr. Bensaid noted that this legal reform concerns the preservation of the national heritage, through the strengthening of its legal framework and its compatibility with international standards ratified by Morocco, indicated the Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, during a press briefing following the Council meeting.

The reform also aims to upgrade the national cultural heritage, so that it becomes a factor and a driver of wealth and employment creation and to ensure national financing by resorting to partnerships between the public and private sectors, particularly with regard to cultural and creative industries and archaeological research.

Addressing the context of the development of this project, Mr. Bensaid stressed that the latter comes following important recent archaeological discoveries in Morocco, placing the Kingdom on the world map of archaeology and geology, which requires the need to preserve tangible and intangible heritage, to digitize it and to fight against illicit trafficking of cultural goods, while ensuring to highlight the richness and authenticity of the national heritage and to consolidate its legal arsenal.
