No hospitalizations in IMSS-BIENESTAR, SEDESA reports

The Mexico City Health Department (SEDESA) reported that it maintains epidemiological surveillance in the face of the COVID-19 and assured that at this time there are no hospitalizations for this disease in the public hospital network of IMSS-WELLBEING in the capital.

He noted that COVID-19 cases in the city have remained at historically low levels this year, without posing a significant risk to the population.

The agency reported that on July 15, 46 rapid detection tests were carried out in Health centersof which only 13 were positive.

Sedesa noted that thanks to the high vaccination coverage in Mexico City, which exceeds 90 percent, most of the detected cases present mild or moderate symptoms.

Favorable comparison: 2024 vs. 2023

According to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System, the incidence of cases in 2024 is considerably lower than that reported in the same period in 2023, the capital’s Health Secretariat stressed.

In that year 121,534 cases of COVID-19 were recordedwhile in 2024, until epidemiological week 28, the figure rises to 2,695 infections.

Furthermore, since epidemiological week 16 of this year, the number of infections has remained stable.

SEDESA reiterated its call to the population to “not let down their guard” and to maintain basic hygiene measures to prevent infections, such as proper hand washing, the use of antibacterial gel, sneezing etiquette, avoiding self-medication and going to the nearest medical unit in case of respiratory symptoms.

Testing and vaccination: Accessible and free

He added that rapid screening tests for people with symptoms related to COVID-19 continue to be carried out free of charge at health centres.

He also noted that vaccination against COVID-19 continues to be free in Health Centers, with the biologicals Abdala and Sputnik-V available.
