In the men’s elite group, Latvians finished in 20 minutes and 55.47 seconds, beating Norwegians Andreas Bergslann and Herman Skram Boterud by one and a half seconds, while Swedes Erik Fransson and Simon Karlsson were third.

Among the eight junior teams, the Swedes Ville Juterdāls and Jūnatans Lindbergs were the fastest, while the second place went to the Latvian athletes Dāvi Kalniņš and Jēkab Skolnieks. In the women’s group, 12 teams took to the starting line, Kitty Auziņa together with Samantha Krampa finished in fifth place.

On Saturday, the competition will move to the streets of the city, where the 200 super sprint discipline will start on Raina Street from 4 p.m. On the other hand, on Sunday from 10 a.m. there will be a mass start through the central streets of the city.

The second stage will be held from August 14 to 18 in Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan, while the third, which will also be the world championship, will end in Italy from September 12 to 15.

The first World Cup in roller skiing was held in Latvia in 2004 – in Priekuli, but this year it is planned to hold the ninth stage of the World Cup in Madona, the world championship is organized in 2019. Last year’s PK stage saw Lauris Kaparkalējs, Linda Kaparkalėja and Raimo Vīgants among Latvian athletes on the podium.
