In the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, the city of Shusha, as part of the Vagif Poetry Days, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, a conference was held in honor of the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fizuli, the press service of the department told Day.Az.

The moderator of the event, Secretary of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan Ilgar Fahmi, spoke about the life and work of Muhammad Fizuli, who is a great master who occupies an exceptional place in the development of Azerbaijani literary and artistic thought, having had a significant influence on the literature of the countries of the Near and Middle East.

Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Academician Ziya Bunyadov of ANAS, Academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva emphasized that the conference was organized in accordance with the plan of events within the framework of the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On holding the 530th anniversary of the brilliant Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fizuli”.

“For more than five centuries, the poetry of Muhammad Fuzuli has been received with great love by readers in Azerbaijan and around the world. Despite the fact that centuries have passed since Fuzuli lived and worked, admiration for his works does not weaken with each passing year; on the contrary, new generations study the works of the brilliant poet and rethink them in accordance with their own worldview,” the academician noted.

Director of the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fuzuli of ANAS, academician Teymur Kerimli emphasized that in 1994 a great historical and literary event took place in Azerbaijan – the 500th anniversary of Muhammad Fuzuli was celebrated.

“In those difficult years for the fate of our country, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, despite the tense situation, did not postpone the celebration of the great poet’s anniversary, on the contrary, he ensured that Fizuli’s anniversary was celebrated at a high level with a series of events both in Azerbaijan and in neighboring countries,” the scientist said.

The academician mentioned that the great leader Heydar Aliyev, noting the importance of holding Fizuli’s anniversary for Azerbaijan, said that it is necessary to promote the republic not only as an independent state, a country with rich natural resources, but also as a country with a rich history and culture.

Poet Farid Huseyn, a member of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan, spoke about the unique work of the brilliant Muhammad Fizuli, emphasizing that the immortal legacy he created will remain relevant at all times and will be loved and in demand by people.

Deputy Minister of Culture Farid Jafarov noted that this year the celebration of the 530th anniversary of Fizuli coincides with the period of holding a global event in the country – the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

“In this anniversary year, in addition to providing full information about Fizuli to writers and poets of foreign countries, we must also convey to them information about our Karabakh victory and the realities of the 30-year period of occupation,” the deputy minister noted, speaking about the events held by the Ministry of Culture in connection with the 530th anniversary of Muhammad Fizuli.

This year, the National Library created an online database “Muhammad Fizuli”, and the Carpet Museum opened an exhibition dedicated to the 530th anniversary of Muhammad Fizuli.

As part of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture organized in Uzbekistan, a conference entitled “Muhammad Fizuli and Alisher Navoi: Common Literary and Spiritual Values” was held, and presentations of the poet’s works translated into the Uzbek language were held.

The legacy of the great poet was promoted at international book fairs in which Azerbaijan participated – in Doha, Beijing and other cities, special corners were created at the Azerbaijani stand. The 10th Baku International Book Fair, which is one of the largest mass events in the country, which is planned to be held in October of this year, will be dedicated to the brilliant poet Muhammad Fizuli. At the same time, the ministry is preparing to publish a book about the life and work of the brilliant poet.

In conclusion, soloists of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Honored Artist Anar Mikayilov and Roza Zeynalova presented a composition from the work “Leyli and Majnun” by Muhammad Fizuli.

It should be noted that on January 14, 1982, with the participation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the mausoleum and the House of Poetry of the great poet and statesman Molla Panah Vagif (1717-1797) were opened in Shusha. It was at this event that Heydar Aliyev supported the initiative of writers in this direction and gave the order to hold Vagif Poetry Days.

The poetry festival was first organized in July 1982. The Vagif Poetry Days, which have a 42-year history, are being held in Shusha, liberated from occupation, for the fourth time.
