(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 18 – “There are political forces, in total contrast with what the majority of parliamentarians in the EU Parliament think, that are politically irrelevant”. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani at the conference “The EU strategy for the next 5 years: European and Italian interests”, organised by the Aristide Merloni Foundation in Portonovo (Ancona). “The election of Roberta Metsola with 90% of the votes to the EU Parliament and today’s election of von der Leyen to the Commission are a very positive message to the markets, to investors, and a clear message from institutions that, faced with a series of international difficulties, have decided to offer a stability project. It is the first thing to do if we want to have a strategy; without stability it becomes unrealistic”, he added. “Imagine what would have happened if von der Leyen had not been elected today – he concluded -, we would have only created chaos, thrown markets and spreads into turmoil.
