According to official figures from the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) published this week, more than 106 Cuban migrants have benefited from the humanitarian parole program.
The number of people who received approval to travel to the United States corresponds to the date between January 2023, when the program to migrate legally began, until June of this year.
U.S. authorities indicated that, in total, 106,757 Cubans received humanitarian parole. They also added that a total of 205,026 Haitians have received the immigration benefit, as well as 118,706 Venezuelans and 93,325 Nicaraguans.
In the case of Cubans who arrived in the country, a total of 104,130 Cubans who arrived in the United States were granted conditional freedom.
These official CBP figures come one year after the Biden administration launched this humanitarian parole program to benefit Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Cuban citizens, nationalities that total 494,799 people who have arrived in the land of freedom legally on commercial flights.
“This is part of the Administration’s strategy to combine expanded legal avenues with stronger consequences to reduce irregular migration,” a CBP statement said.
U.S. immigration authorities believe that this process has prevented hundreds of thousands of people from migrating illegally to the country.
However, the arrival of Cubans through the southern border or the coasts of Florida continues to be a constant, as they seek to escape Castro’s misery by any means.
