The fight will finally take place on November 15th and the former champion has already returned to training.
In recent years, viewers have become accustomed to the “influencer” who has become a boxer, Jake Paulis dedicated to challenging and fighting with personalities from contact sports. But the challenge launched to Mike Tyson left many speechless. Despite his age, Tyson was a true Champion and a fearsome fighter. And he doesn’t seem to have lost any physical form with the passing of the years.
Unfortunately, when the fight already seemed to be agreed and scheduled, the former boxer was forced to postpone the fight, for health reasons. Paul quickly looked for a substitute for the event planned for July 20. This is none other than Mike Perryformer UFC fighter and current Bare-Knuckles champion. However, the showdown with Tyson was still on the horizon.
It was the former Champion himself who declared that he can now return to training and that he is going to prepare thoroughly for the fight that, it seems, will take place next November of this year; specifically, on the 15th. The streaming platform Netflix will act as promoter and will broadcast this long-awaited event, which has been delayed almost 4 months, but which viewers are eagerly awaiting to take place.
As far as odds go, it may be because of the age difference and the prolonged inactivity of “Iron Mike”; or, perhaps, because of the previous results of the “Trouble Boy”; one way or another, the online bookmakers seem to point to Paul as the favorite to win. Apparently, the famous punch of the former heavyweight champion would not be enough to defeat him.
That hasn’t stopped Tyson from promising to knock out his rival. But it should be noted that the New York-born athlete has only interrupted his retirement (the last official fight was in 2005) once, in 2020, to face Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match, which ended in a draw. A priori, he has fully recovered from the problem that forced him to postpone his fight against Paul; which, according to the media, would be an ulcer.
For its part, “The Problem Child” has a tough challenge ahead of him this July. Mike “Platinum” Perry is not an opponent to be underestimated. He is undefeated in his 5 fights in BKFC, where he is experiencing a second youth. Even so, Paul starts, again on this occasion, as the favorite for the fight. After a defeat in February of last year, he has managed to beat his next three rivals with some authority; including the media-savvy Nate Diazwho recently beat Jorge Masvidal in another boxing match.
Returning to the fight next November, there has been no shortage of critics of this event. The age difference between the two boxers is almost 30 years. And, most importantly, “Iron Mike” is already 58 years old. Although he has obtained the license to fight this fight, the risks are obvious. Also the damage to his image; the most immediate precedent we have is with Hollyfieldan old acquaintance of Tyson, who faced Vitor Belfort (ex UFC) and succumbed to the youth of his rival in the early stages of the fight.
However, the appeal of this fight is undeniable and fans are delighted that it is finally taking place. Currently, the predictions seem to be more in favour of Paul’s youth than Tyson’s experience. But of course, anything can happen when they enter the ring.
