“Donation is a priceless gift. The person who saw this sensitive and life-changing meaning already had a donor card. The deceased’s relatives, who also agreed to donate organs and tissues, gave six people a chance to live. In the pain of loss, a miracle was born to live. We express our sincere condolences and thanks to the relatives of the donor”, Diana Palepšaitienė, head of the Klaipėda region’s dead adult tissue and organ donation coordination center, is quoted in the KUL report.
Even several organ explants were performed operatively: heart, liver, kidney and cornea. Lithuanian, German and Polish medical teams worked together for the noble mission.
“All together – Klaipėda University Hospital doctors, representatives of the National Transplantation Office (NTB), international partners from the National Transplantation Office of Poland, Germany – worked as a team. We were united by a common desire to respect the donor’s and his relatives’ “yes” and to make sure that donated organs save other people’s lives. We sincerely thank everyone who got involved and contributed to the smooth donation process – doctors, nurses, other specialists, ambulance drivers and the Lithuanian police”, D. Palepšaitienė thanked the participants of the donation process.
