Baggage check-in for Wizz Air and Ryanair passengers at Sofia Airport is done manually. This is the consequence of the global collapse of the IT systems for the two airlines, but not for the airport in the Bulgarian capital, its systems are working, they said.
Due to manual check-in, the Hungarian low-cost carrier asks passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours early.
From there they report that like all airlines today, Wizz Air is facing extreme technical challenges related to the disruption of the global IT systems of a third party. Wizz Air customers may experience disruptions related to temporarily unavailable services on the website and mobile application.
The following online services are currently unavailable:
• Wizz Air website and mobile application;
• reservation system;
• online check-in and boarding card display system;
• call centers – new reservations and changes to existing ones.
Free airport check-in is available during the outage. Therefore, Wizz Air advises passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before the scheduled departure time to allow enough time for check-in, security and other airport-specific procedures.
Wizz Air thanks all customers for their understanding while dealing with the consequences of the global IT systems outage. The airline’s team emphasizes that it is doing everything possible to minimize disruption to passengers.
European airline Ryanair has reported that it is also experiencing network difficulties, which it says is due to an outage by a third country. The airline advises everyone traveling today to check the Ryanair app for updates on their flight.
