“We’re going to have an incredible victory and it’s going to be the beginning of the greatest four years in our country’s history,” Trump promised in his first speech since the assassination attempt. “I’m running to be the president of all America,” he emphasized.
On July 13, Trump was shot at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attacker, who was on the roof of an adjacent building, was shot dead by Secret Service agents. A rally participant was killed in the shooting, and Trump was wounded in the ear.
“I shouldn’t be here tonight,” Trump told a packed conference room about the assassination attempt. “There was blood everywhere, but in a way I felt very safe because God was on my side,” he added.
