Chennai: The Chennai High Court has ordered the South Indian Actors’ Association executives to count the votes cast in the elections. It also ordered a three-week moratorium on the announcement of results.
Last June 2019, it was announced that the South Indian Actors Association executives election would take place. Union members sued Yelumalai and Benjamin, demanding that a proper voter list be prepared and an election committee set up.
The Registrar of District Associations ordered the suspension of the election on a complaint filed by 61 members challenging the removal from the prosecutor’s list. Actor Vishal sued against this and demanded that the election be held.
The High Court, which heard the case, granted leave to hold the election; Prohibited the number of votes. Following this, the election was held in June 2019 as planned. Yelumalai and Benjamin sued, claiming that they were denied the right to vote in the election and that the election should be canceled.

Actors Vishal, Nasser and Karthi appealed against the order of the separate judge. Following this, the ‘Division Bench’ granted an interim stay on the order of the Special Judge. Following that, the bench of Justices Pushpa Satyanarayana and Mohammad Shafiq heard the appeal.
The judges ordered that the box containing the appeal ballots be handed over to the returning officer, that the ballot be counted, and that the results be announced within four weeks. Following that, the judges ordered the returning officer not to publish the election results for three weeks.
