He General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) unanimously approved the Plan Integral y Calendar for the extraordinary elections of the town councils of Captain Luis Angel Vidal, Chicomuselo y Pantelho, Chiapasto be held on Sunday, August 25 of 2024.
The counselor Dania Ravel Cuevaspresident of the Commission for Liaison with Local Public Bodiesstated that with this approval the formal coordination with the Institute of Elections and Citizen Participation of Chiapas for the holding of extraordinary elections and the renewal of the authorities of those municipalities.
He stressed that this extraordinary electoral process is unprecedented because the call for elections established a margin of only 44 days to prepare the elections.

The Comprehensive Plan and Coordination Calendar considers 99 activities, of which 89 refer to the preparation of the extraordinary electoral process, four to the Electoral journey and six to computations and other reports. Of that total, 38 correspond to the INE, 47 to the Local Public Body (OPL) and 14 would be developed collaboratively.
Among the relevant deadlines, Ravel Cuevas mentioned that the period to obtain citizen support and the pre-campaign will be from July 27 to 29; the application for registration of candidates between August 3 and 4; the approval of the registration of candidates, between August 10 and 12; the electoral campaigns, from August 13 to 21 (a duration of only nine days); the Electoral Day, on August 25, and the municipal counts starting on August 27.
The Institute, in collaboration with the OPL of Chiapas “will guarantee the political electoral rights of 43,343 people who make up the Nominal List of these three municipalities,” he said, adding that if the political, social and security conditions exist, it is planned to install 79 polling stations.

He recalled that the mechanisms to guarantee civility and security in the electoral contest have already been linked, and considered the commitment and duty of the state authorities, as well as the political will of the public security institutions and political actors, to be essential to bring this extraordinary electoral process in Chiapas to a successful conclusion.
