Scheduled to air in 2025, the new SBS drama “Gwigung” (written by Yoon Soo-jung/directed by Yoon Sung-sik) is a fantasy romantic comedy about a shaman named Yeo-ri who rejects her fate as a psychic, and Kang Cheol-i, an imoogi trapped in the body of Yeo-ri’s first love, Yoon Gap, who face the eight-faced ghost who holds a grudge against the royal family, and their bodies and souls become entangled. Director Yoon Sung-sik, who directed the dramas “The Best Lee Soon-shin,” “Bridal Mask,” and “Dae Jo-yeong,” has joined forces with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who wrote the dramas “The King’s Face” and “Cheeky Go Go.” Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon have joined the lead roles, completing the reliable and treasured lineup.

Yuk Seong-jae plays Yoon Gap, a police inspector who tries to protect the palace that has fallen into chaos due to the schemes of Palchukgwi, and the first love of the female shaman Yeo-ri (played by Kim Ji-yeon). Yoon Gap has a cruel fate of having his body stolen by the evil spirit Imoogi, who wanted to ascend to heaven by borrowing Yeo-ri’s body. He was a clean and beautiful scholar, but after being possessed by Imoogi, he becomes the subject of unfortunate rumors that he has “gone mad.”

Through ‘Gwigung’, he will show off his diverse acting spectrum, from the main character of a sweet and savage romance entangled with spirits, to the appearance of a spiteful snake that hates humans and ends up possessing a human body, to the appearance of a scholar with burning loyalty. Expectations are high for Yook Sung-jae’s performance, which will shake up women’s hearts with his diverse charms.

Kim Ji-yeon plays Yeo-ri, a shaman who rejects the fate of a shaman. Yeo-ri is the only granddaughter of a famous manshin and has excellent magical powers, but she is a craftsman of glasses whose life is terribly twisted after becoming entangled with an imoogi who failed to become a dragon. However, she gets involved in unexpected incidents, starting with an incident where an imoogi possesses the body of her first love, Yoon-gap, and then entering a palace swarming with resentful eight-legged ghosts and evil spirits.

Through ‘Gwigung’, Kim Ji-yeon feels strong attraction and confusion at the same time as she faces off against the eight-faced ghost along with her mortal enemy, Lee Moo-gi, who suddenly pierced her first love, Yoon Gap’s body, and she is expected to develop an exciting ‘hate romance’ with Yook Sung-jae. Accordingly, expectations are rising for the combination of Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon, who will boast great visual and acting chemistry.

Kim Ji-hoon plays King Lee Seong, a reformist monarch who dreams of a strong Joseon Dynasty and confronts the Palchukgwi, who holds a grudge against the royal family. King Lee Seong, who does not tolerate the entry of female shamans, which is prohibited by national law, joins hands with his favorite subject Yoon Gap and the female shaman Yeo-ri he brought to uncover the secret of the Palchukgwi when a series of ominous incidents occur in the palace.

Kim Ji-hoon, who is playing a king for the first time since his debut in ‘Gwigung’, will add weight to the play with his strong charisma and aura. In addition, he is expected to provide another kind of fun through his unique bromance with Yoon Gap, who suddenly turns from his only right-hand man into the evil spirit Imoogi.

Meanwhile, the fantasy romantic comedy ‘Gwigung’, directed by Yoon Sung-sik of ‘Mr. Queen’ and starring Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon, is scheduled to air in 2025.
