A 22-year-old Serbian man has been arrested in France a week after the fatal stabbing in Germany of former Rolls-Royce design director Ian Cameron.

Bavarian police said that after a public manhunt, the suspect was found in an apartment northeast of Paris and arrested by French special forces on Thursday.

Ian, 74, was attacked on the evening of July 12 at his home in Hersching, southwest of Munich. His wife ran to the neighboring house to seek help.

Police later released a photo of the suspect taken at a local supermarket before the killing. They said the man had been in the Hershing area for several hours.

Ian Cameron moved to the lakeside village of Hershing 11 years ago.

After police found his body, they searched neighboring gardens and roads near the east bank with a helicopter and police dogs.

After a week-long manhunt, a suspect is now in custody.

The man fled to Munich and then traveled to Innsbruck in Austria and via Zurich to France, bTV reports.

He is believed to have fled on foot. A red backpack was later found by the lake, and other items were found during a search of the woods near the victim’s house.

Photos from the outside of the victim’s house show that the cable feeding an outdoor security camera has been cut.

The Serbian suspect was alone in an apartment near Paris when he was detained by French special forces and did not resist arrest.

He is due to appear before an investigating judge in France on Friday.

Rolls-Royce chief executive Chris Brownridge said this week that his thoughts were with the family and friends of Ian Cameron.

“Ian led the design team for all models in the Phantom and Ghost family, creating thoroughly contemporary cars that are in tune with the brand’s design,” he said.
