The National Music and Global Culture Society held a selection for the IV International Composers’ Competition.
As reported by Day.Az, this was reported to Trend by the president of the National Music & Global Culture Society, laureate of international competitions, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, Professor Nargiz Aliyarova.
“The winners will be announced on September 18 – the Day of National Music of Azerbaijan. The premiere of the works of the winning composers will take place in September in Baku as part of the Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival. We thank the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan for this opportunity. The concert will also be held in November at the Lincoln Center in New York. Special thanks to the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Work with Diaspora,” said Nargiz Aliyarova.
The jury includes Melinda Wagner, head of the composition department at the Juilliard School in New York (chair of the jury), Sunji Gong, associate professor of music composition at the University of North Texas, and Jalal Abbasov, a teacher at the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Baku Music Academy and the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, and Honored Artist of Azerbaijan.
This competition is the first and only international composers’ competition in the history of Azerbaijani music. The current competition is dedicated to Azerbaijani folk songs. The purpose of the competition is to draw attention to the issue of belonging to Azerbaijani folk art of a number of songs that have been plagiarized, and their wide propaganda in the world. This year, representatives of 24 countries are participating in the competition. The winners will be announced, diplomas of the competition will be presented, as well as cash prizes for the 1st place ($2,000), 2nd place ($1,000) and 3rd place ($500).
The best works will be collected in a single collection, registered in the US Library of Congress and published in New York with an individual number and barcode. It should be noted that two collections of works by the laureates of the I and II Composers’ Competitions to the melodies of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Fikret Amirov have already been published in New York. 51 participants from 35 countries took part in the first International Composers’ Competition in 2021, 35 participants from 23 countries in the second in 2022, and 54 participants from 22 countries in the third in 2023. In different years, participants representing Azerbaijan, Great Britain, USA, Germany, Austria, Spain, Poland, China, Colombia, Georgia and Ukraine became winners of the competitions.
