(ANSA) – TUNIS, JULY 19 – Outgoing Tunisian President Kais Saied has announced his candidacy for the presidential elections of October 6. He made the announcement in a video relaunched by the presidency itself, from Borj el-Kadhra, in the deep south of the country. Saied motivated his decision in a video in which he said he felt he had to respond “to the sacred call of the homeland”. Saied added that he “has no other choice” than to run and “continue the path of struggle”. “I chose this place, a symbol of strength and pride, to remember that Tunisia is a united nation, from the far north to the far south, and will remain united. On this occasion, I invite all those who are preparing to support the candidates to beware of any kind of deception. Some have been exposed and others will be soon. I also invite you not to accept a thousandth from anyone, I also invite you not to personify power anymore. We are all passing through and only Tunisia will remain,” said the president. (ANSA).
