Microsoft responded to the hacking of Windows computers by releasing an urgent update. This was reported by Day.Az with reference to The Register.
Previously, a vulnerability was discovered in Microsoft operating systems – including Windows 10 and 11 – that allowed malware to be installed on a PC. The system flaw, identified as CVE-2024-30078, allowed access to the PC if it was connected to a public and unsecured Wi-Fi network.
“An unauthenticated attacker could send a malicious network packet to a nearby system that uses a Wi-Fi network adapter, which could enable remote code execution,” Microsoft said. The company released a patch to fix the issue on June 11 and urged all users to install the update immediately.
Microsoft also noted that the vulnerability was not publicly reported before it was fixed. From this, the authors of the report concluded that hackers were unlikely to have had time to exploit the loophole in the system.
