/ The Operations Authority of Dhi Qar Oil Company announced, on Sunday, the introduction of three new oil wells to work in the Nasiriyah oil field, after completing the necessary connection and pipe extension operations.

The Deputy Director of the Equipment Maintenance Department at the Authority, Adi Juma, said in a statement today that these wells are wells No. 53, 23 and 57.

He added that the aim of launching these wells is to increase the production capacity of the oil field, which will contribute to strengthening the national economy.

The Nasiriyah field is located in Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq. It was discovered in 1973. The field began its experimental operation in June 2009 with a capacity of up to 10,000 barrels per day. Production in this field increased to 90,000 barrels per day in 2018.

The Iraqi economy is characterised by being a consumer rentier economy that depends entirely on oil sales revenues, which are the main source of the country’s annual financial budget.
