It is very likely that there is a configuration error in iCloud’s spam processing, which causes all incoming emails to be rejected immediately.
There is no message in the status dashboard
Apple also has this problem Status-Dashboard not updated – the status bar says that iCloud Mail is working normally:
We do not know how many users are affected by this issue. In the MTN editorial team, we were able to reproduce the behavior with some iCloud user accounts. In the event of a delivery attempt, the iCloud server reports the following error message in the non-delivery report:Ill-code: smtp; 554 5.7.1 [HM08] Message declined due to local policy.“.
The only remedy: wait
The error can be found on Apple’s servers – and therefore those affected can only wait for now and see when the company identifies and fixes the error. It is difficult to estimate how quickly Apple will react to such an outing on a Sunday. In the past, Apple usually fixed such problems within a few hours.
If you are waiting for an important email, you should use another email address if possible. Even if Apple has corrected the error, e-mails written during the outage period will not be restored, as would normally be the case if the e-mail server was not convenient. However, since iCloud immediately rejects incoming emails, the emails that are created automatically are not sent again.
Update: Apple now seems to have the problems under control – emails to iCloud addresses are now delivered reliably again and are not rejected with an error.
