INVESTIGATION.
With 96 votes, the National Assembly approved the project to investigate an alleged case of corruption in the Workers’ Union of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS).
The request to change the agenda was presented by the Azuay assembly members: Sofía Sánchez, Adrián Castro, Leonardo Berrezueta, Mabel Méndez and Diego Matovelle and received the support of the entire Plenary.
During this period, the legislators spoke about the investigation they are carrying out in the IESS Workers Union in Azuay. In this province, Rosa Argudo, national secretary of the union, was accused of alleged nepotism and influence peddling.
Soraya Puertas, an internist at the José Carrasco Arteaga IESS Hospital, spoke at the plenary session. She detailed the irregularities she discovered as manager of the Hospital and the alleged direct intervention of the Union’s secretary.
He also said that Rosa Argudo had direct relatives working at the health center and various contracts (including one for recycling). She allegedly made collections and fines that would go directly to her personal account.
Assemblyman Adrián Castro said it is wrong to think that these alleged irregularities are committed only in the IESS of Azuay. “There are hundreds of emails and messages that we receive from the rest of the country,” he said.
For his part, legislator Diego Matovelle urged legislators from all provinces to request information on what is happening in each locality./La Hora
