HOT A disturbing sighting. Carlo and Franca Papi, parents of Andrea, the young man killed on April 5 by the bear Jj4 in the woods of Monte Peller, above the town of Caldes, encountered a bear in the area where their son died after being attacked. It happened on Peller on Tuesday.
“I had never seen it. It was shocking. Imagine you, two parents who lost a child in that way, and seeing the bear in front of you,” Carlo Papi told the Adige. The man was in the car, together with his wife Franca and Professor Corti, of the “Together for Andrea Papi” committee. They wanted to take him to the cross that was installed in memory of Andrea. “We were going down, when we saw it in the Mezzol area. While we were going around the bend we came across it, a very large specimen, it must have weighed two quintals. I think it was a sub-adult, it was running, it was coming from Terzolas let’s say, and it was going towards the woods, it cut the bend and went away.”
“We were shocked. And then it occurred to us that a few meters away we had found a man who was chopping wood. We went back and warned him: ‘Go back to the car, maybe it’s around the corner’ we shouted at him.” The couple alerted the police and firefighters.
