The reception was marked by the presence of eminent personalities from the Vatican and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See.

In a speech on this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador to the Holy See, Rajae Naji Mekkaoui, highlighted ”the values and the deep symbolism which underlie the celebration by the Moroccan people of the Throne Day and which illustrate their secular and indelible attachment to the Monarchy and to the August Person of His Majesty the King”.

Mrs. Naji Mekkaoui also reviewed the various reform projects undertaken under the leadership of the Sovereign throughout these 24 years of reign, in harmony with the aspirations of the Moroccan people and which make the Kingdom an island of stability and a vector of this stability in its regional environment.

“Since the beginning of his reign, HM the King has continued to strengthen Morocco’s position on the international stage, consolidate the foundations of the Moroccan state and open up new perspectives,” said the diplomat, noting that the wisdom and enlightened vision of the Sovereign have enabled the Kingdom to rise to a vanguard position on the regional and international scenes at all levels, particularly in matters of reconciliation and mediation, and to benefit from continued support for its legitimate national question.

Furthermore, the ambassador stressed that the centuries-old relations between Morocco and the Holy See, which date back to the 11th century, continue to grow stronger, recalling the historic visit of Pope Francis to Morocco in March 2019.

Mrs. Naji Mekkaoui thus indicated that this visit, placed under the banner of promoting interreligious dialogue and mutual understanding, was marked by the signing by HM King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, President of the Al-Qods Committee, and by the Pope, of the Al-Qods Appeal, which “contributed considerably to promoting the values of fraternity, peace and tolerance.”

In a statement to MAP, the Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States, Paul Richard Gallagher, expressed his “deep consideration” to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, praising “the excellence of the distinguished relations” between the Kingdom and the Holy See.

“Pope Francis praises the efforts of HM the King in matters of interreligious dialogue, a basic foundation for universal peace,” said Mr. Gallagher, recalling the good memories that the sovereign pontiff kept from his visit to Morocco at the end of March 2019.

In the same vein, the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Giampaolo Cantini, was pleased to share the joy and jubilation of the entire Moroccan people on this happy occasion, expressing his warm congratulations to HM the King and his best wishes for health and prosperity.
