The Marine Secretary contemplates that the Interoceanic Train operate for at least 3 years with a deficit of more than 2 billion pesos, being profitable until 2027.
The above according to a sheet presented by Admiral Raymundo Morales Ángeles, general director of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT).
During his presentation of the project’s progress, during the Morning of the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, The federal official showed a slide that reads that the Train will operate with a deficit from 2024 to 2026.
In 2024, the losses will be a thousand 336 million pesos; in 2025, 744 million pesos, and in 2026, 67 millions of pesos.
Regarding profitability, Morales Ángeles said that “the Interoceanic Corridor is a profitable project. In the case of the railway We hope to reach our break-even point in the first quarter of 2027 and from there (…) we have more or less exponential growth.”
Therefore, following the projected schedule, it is estimated that by 2027 there will be a surplus of 1,732 million pesos.
The Train was inaugurated by the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on December 22, 2023, with regard to Line Z, one of the three sections contemplated in the project.
The Z, is already finished and operational in terms of cargo and passenger transport, it goes from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.
The logistics platform is made up of the port services of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca; Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz; Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas, and Dos Bocas, Tabasco, which will be interconnected by 1,200 kilometers of railway tracks in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
