The LG Twins, who decided to part ways with long-time foreign pitcher Casey Kelly, have signed new foreign pitcher Eliezer Hernandez.

After the game against Doosan Bears at Jamsil Stadium on the 20th was declared a no-game due to rain, LG announced, “On the 19th, we agreed to a contract with foreign pitcher Hernandez for a total of 440,000 dollars (approximately 610 million won).”

Born in 1995, Hernandez is a Venezuelan right-handed pitcher with a height of 185 cm and a weight of 97 kg.

Hernandez, who made his major league debut with the Miami Marlins in 2018, played in 99 games (49 as a starter) over six seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), posting a record of 10 wins, 22 losses, 2 holds, and an ERA of 5.10.

In the minor league Triple-A, he appeared in 35 games, pitching 159⅔ innings, recording 11 wins, 7 losses, and an ERA of 2.87.

Hernandez, who pitched 15⅔ innings in nine major league games for the LA Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers this year, had a record of no wins, one loss, and an ERA of 6.32. His Triple-A record this year is 4 wins, 1 loss, and an ERA of 2.83 in six games.

The LG club said, “Hernandez is a complete right-handed pitcher with sharp control of both his fastballs and breaking balls and excellent pitching sense,” and added, “He will join the team mid-season, but we hope he will adapt quickly and assume the role of the starting pitcher.”

Earlier, LG announced that they would be parting ways with Kelly after six seasons.

Kelly, who was scheduled to pitch in the Doosan game that day, expressed his intention to play in the game and started as a starter. However, the game was declared a no-game due to rain, so his farewell appearance was not recorded.

Kelly pitched 989⅓ innings in 163 games over six seasons, posting a record of 74 wins, 46 losses, and an ERA of 3.25.

After the game was declared a no-game, Kelly shed tears as he said goodbye to the players and fans. The LG team held a farewell ceremony and paid tribute to Kelly.

LG plans to request a waiver for Kelly from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on the 21st.
