/ The Iraqi Football Association announced, on Monday, that it had filed a complaint with the Organizing Committee of the 2023 Asian Cup, regarding its match with Jordan, which witnessed an unfair refereeing controversy by Iranian referee Alireza Faghani.

Football Association member Ghaleb Al-Zamili told Shafak News Agency: “We were wronged today by the referee’s decision when he showed two yellow cards to Ayman Hussein without right.”

Al-Zamili added, “The Federation has filed an official complaint with the Asian Organizing Committee for the tournament, and is awaiting its response in this regard, especially after the Federation has supported the complaint with evidence taken from the match.”

He explained that “the team left the tournament with its head held high, especially since it was winning until moments before the end of the match, but the expulsion of a player in a decisive match affected the team and the Jordanians were able to exploit this point in their favor and score two goals that allowed them to book a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup.”

Al-Zamili confirmed that “the Iraqi national team delegation will return to Iraq if the objection is unsuccessful after confirming the reservations tomorrow at eight o’clock in the evening.”

The Iraqi national team bid farewell to the Asian Cup this afternoon, with a difficult loss to its Jordanian counterpart, who scored a fatal goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time after the end of regular time in the controversial match, especially after it witnessed the expulsion of Iraqi striker Ayman Hussein.
