A dramatic video has captured the moment a shark lunges towards tourists on a beach in the Canary Islands, Spain. The footage shows the predator, accompanied by what appears to be a second shark, cutting through the waves towards screaming bathers.

The incident, shared on TikTok, took place at a beach in Las Palmas, a popular holiday destination in the Canary Islands, Spain. In the footage, the shark’s sharp fin can be seen slicing through the waves as it speeds towards the shore, prompting bathers to scream in fear. The shark moves quickly into shallower waters, while in the background the alarmed cries of people on the sand can be heard.

A young woman appears to be running away from the approaching shark as it comes incredibly close to the shore, with its fin and tail clearly visible just a few meters from the sand.

The shark eventually turns and swims back into the sea, much to the relief of onlookers. The incident highlights the increasing number of shark sightings on popular Spanish beaches this year.

Several beaches along the mainland Spanish coast and surrounding islands have closed this summer for precautionary reasons due to the sightings.

In May, tourists and locals who feared for their safety were prohibited from entering the sea due to a shark sighting off the beach of Arenal d’en Castell in Menorca.

Coast guard officials raised the red flag and called emergency services after a two-meter long blue shark was spotted above the waterline, dangerously close to the shore.

The shocking video showed the shark patrolling the waters near a boat, just offshore around 3:30 PM.
