The approach of Eastern Wave No. 12 will gradually increase rainfall across the country starting Friday, July 19, and will continue throughout the weekend.

Insivumeh recommends taking the necessary precautions due to reduced visibility at dawn due to fog, especially in mountainous regions. It is also important to be alert due to the expected rains and accelerated northerly wind.

The departments of Zacapa, San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Alta Verapaz and Petén must be alert to possible river flooding, as water levels could rise due to rainfall.

In addition, the departments of Quiché, Huehuetenango, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Sololá, Suchitepéquez, Guatemala, Chiquimula, Izabal, Petén and Alta Verapaz must take precautions against the possibility of mass movements, such as landslides, slides or mudflows that could reach considerable magnitudes. Weak to moderate lahars could also occur in the ravines of the Fuego volcano and in the Santiaguito volcano in the riverbeds that descend from the dome complex.
