The composition of the District Court – Haskovo left with a permanent measure “detention in custody” in the custody of the accused of marijuana trafficking, the driver of the D.M. from Kalekovets village, Maritsa municipality. The man (50 years old) was caught with 83,250 kg worth BGN 1,332,000, calculated at prices for the needs of the court proceedings, during an inspection in the area of the Border Control and Crossing Point (BCP) “Captain Petko Voivoda” on July 18 this year.

Before the customs authorities, he presented documents for transported group goods, part of which was sanitary ware from Portugal to Bulgaria.

Despite the documents shown, according to the “risk analysis” method, the truck was selected for a thorough inspection, during which a joint team of customs officers and border police officers discovered in the cargo area of the heavy-duty vehicle, on pallets with sanitary ware, seven cartons containing 124 transparent vacuum-sealed the package with green grassy mass. The contents reacted to cannabis in the drug field test, the regional press center of Svilengrad customs reported earlier.

The court considered today at the hearing to take a measure that from the evidence collected so far, including the questioning of a witness in today’s court hearing, a reasonable conclusion can be made that a crime has actually occurred and that the accused is the author of it.

Although D.M. has not been convicted, the court considered that there is a danger that he will abscond and frustrate the criminal prosecution, as well as commit a new crime. These are the main reasons why he was left in custody.

The ruling is subject to appeal before the Court of Appeal – Plovdiv.
