“As soon as possible,” G. Nausėda told reporters on Monday when he was asked when he expected to meet the prime minister.
“Preliminary talks (with the prime minister – ELTA) have already taken place. I hope that opinion has not fundamentally changed because of the work of some ministers. If so, I think we could very quickly finalize this process and concentrate on other works,” he added.
According to the head of the country, the renewal of the Government makes sense even just three months before the Seimas elections.
“The red light comes on when it becomes almost impossible for the community of that sector to talk to the minister. Then it doesn’t matter how many months are left until the next Seimas elections,” the president emphasized.
However, G. Nausėda continues to not reveal which ministers will be replaced.
On Monday, the president signed a decree appointing I. Šimonytė as the head of the Government and instructing her to form and present the Cabinet of Ministers within 15 days.
ELTA reminds that the head of the country has claimed that he has specific names of ministers who, in his opinion, could be changed after the Government returns its powers. The Presidency made it clear that the work of the Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickis is most in doubt. In recent weeks, the Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis has also been criticized.
The Prime Minister herself has stated that when considering the renewal of the Government, it is necessary to assess whether these changes would really allow to achieve better quality in the relevant areas.
“It is necessary to look from the point of rationality, whether the change actually allows to achieve some kind of better quality. What we wouldn’t want is for us to solve personal issues in that change. The goal should be for us to improve something. In such a spirit, those discussions can take place,” I. Šimonytė told journalists earlier.
