Kasselakis Praises Biden’s Courageous Decision Not to Seek Second Term, Calls for Progressive Solutions

by time news

The president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, refers to the decision of the US president not to run for a second term in his social media post.

Specifically, he states: “The decision of American President Joe Biden not to seek a second term is an act of political courage and selflessness. The fact that he put the interests of his country above his own speaks volumes about his character. Because your character is judged not only when you take power but, mainly, when you leave it. The modern era presents challenges both in the US and in Europe. It is imperative to find progressive solutions to the pressing problems faced by American citizens, such as the climate crisis, youth unemployment, student loans, inclusion policies, and economic insecurity. Furthermore, the Democratic Party must from now on take a clear stance against the genocide of the Palestinians. It must also promote peace with restraint in foreign policy: with a NATO that has ONLY a defensive mission against authoritarian regimes, as its charter stipulates. Joe Biden leaves behind an important legacy of service, championing progressive politics. It is a personal honor for me to have collaborated with him as a volunteer during the 2008 election campaign. I feel grateful for my friendship with his son Beau (who unfortunately passed away young in 2015). I wish his successor the ability to dynamically inspire the citizens of the US as well as European citizens to resist the dangerous rise of the far-right.”
