The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 22nd that it will provide an additional 2.5 billion won in disaster safety special grants to four cities and provinces, including Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeollanam-do, where a lot of manpower and equipment is being mobilized for emergency recovery efforts due to damage from heavy rain from the 16th to the 19th.

This is because, although the Ministry of the Interior and Safety provided emergency support of 3.5 billion won in special grants to South Chungcheong Province, North Chungcheong Province, North Jeolla Province, and North Gyeongsang Province on the 10th, the need for additional emergency recovery funds has arisen as damage has expanded due to continued heavy rain.

The previous day, the Office of the President also announced in a briefing that “we plan to make full use of available financial resources, such as special grants for emergency restoration of damaged facilities, to support rapid emergency restoration.”

Accordingly, the special grant of 2.5 billion won additionally provided this time will be used for emergency measures such as emergency restoration of damaged facilities and disposal of debris, prevention of damage spread, and relief for disaster victims.

Minister Lee Sang-min said, “Local governments and other related organizations should quickly promote emergency recovery measures to prevent additional damage in preparation for the possibility of typhoons and heavy rain,” and “The government will make every effort to fully restore the affected areas and provide relief to the evacuees.”

Meanwhile, the Office of the President said, “Following the declaration of five regions as special disaster zones on the 15th, we are currently conducting a damage survey for the declaration of additional regions,” and “Additional special disaster zones will be declared quickly based on the results of the damage survey.”

The five areas that have been declared special disaster zones first are Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, Nonsan-si and Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, and Ipam-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
