Residents of the village of Tkakach and several other kaolin villages are planning to block the main Shumen – Silistra road for an hour on July 26, in the area of the intersection of the village of Pristoe, the teacher from Tkakach Hulmie Yumer, organizer of the protest, told BTA. The dissatisfaction of the people is caused by the fact that, according to them, the water supply company does not follow the schedule for regular water supply to the high area of the village of Tkach, as well as that the water pressure there is low.
In the villages of Naum and Kliment there are fewer families without water, we expect them to join the protest, Yumer added. “We did everything we could, we also turned to the head of the waterworks, but nothing is being done. We have been like this since the end of January, then people were not watered, but we were also left without water for several days”, added Yumer and explained that the protest was planned to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26. She added that if the situation does not change, the Shumen – Silistra road will be blocked again on Monday, July 29.
A notification about the protest has been submitted to the police, permission is awaited from the Road Infrastructure Agency, Hulmie Yumer also said and recalled that the protestors’ demand is to comply with the announced water supply schedule.
On July 15, about 15 residents of the village of Tkach protested in front of the Shumen Waterworks. The manager of the company, Ivan Pushkarov, met with them. He assured them that the Waterworks is doing everything possible to supply water and that the water supply regime to the village of Tukach is being respected.
On July 22, there were 21 settlements in Shumen district with water supply regime.
By order of the mayor of the Shumen municipality, Prof. Hristo Hristov, dated July 18, the use of drinking water for non-potable needs in seven villages is prohibited.
