Wellington – New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced reforms and compensation following a report by a panel of experts on the abuse of guards. Luxon said on Wednesday that he thought the compensation owed to the victims could be several hundred dollars. “We are starting conversations about reforms and working with the rest of the parties.” In New Zealand, around 200,000 children, young people and vulnerable adults in city and church care have been abused over the past 70 years, according to the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
