Germany reiterates its position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara expressed in the Joint Declaration of August 25, 2022
Rabat – Germany reiterated its position regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, which considers “the autonomy plan presented in 2007 as a serious and credible effort by Morocco and as a good basis for a solution accepted by both parties”, as expressed in the Joint Declaration of August 25, 2022.
This position was reaffirmed on the occasion of the 50th session of intergovernmental negotiations on Morocco-Germany cooperation, which was held in Rabat on December 7 and 8, 2023, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad.
The Joint Declaration of August 25, 2022 was adopted following the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Ms. Annalena Baerbock.
In the same statement, the German side stressed the exclusivity of the UN in the political process and reaffirmed its support for UN Security Council Resolution 2703, which noted the role and responsibility of the parties in finding a realistic, pragmatic, lasting and compromise-based political solution.
