Efforts to extinguish the fire that broke out at 12:15 noon in the municipality of Kantanos – Selinos in Chania are being reinforced from land and air. The fire started from a moving car and quickly spread due to the strong winds blowing in the area.
Initially, Agrilés was threatened; however, the fire spots have literally “surrounded” the houses in Livada and Rodovani, while at this moment, flames are threatening Maza.
Evacuated Villages
Earlier, an evacuation order was given for the villages of Livada and Agrilés, while strong winds were blowing at the scene, complicating the work of the firefighting forces.
In the fight against the flames, 4 aircraft dropping retardant material, 4 helicopters, 130 firefighters, as well as volunteers from the municipality of Kantanos – Selinos and all municipalities of the Chania Regional Unit are participating.
At this moment, the coordinating committee of Civil Protection is in session.
